According to the
Protection of Privacy Law 5741-1981
Article Two, Section 17C to and including 17F, "Direct Mail" is
defined as including email.
The law is essentialy "opt-out" but the sender must always
provide information relating to the identity and location of the database
used, in addition to the source of the address used. There must always be a notice
of the recipient's right to have his or her address deleted from the database
and the address to use for this purpose.
The recipient is entitled to demand in writing that the address be removed
from the database, and is further entitled to demand in writing that the address not be
passed on to any other person or category of persons. This latter prohibition
can be made to apply for a limited time or permanently.
The database owner must comply and give notice in writing within 30 days.
The recipient can apply for enforcement via the Magistrates Court in cases
of non-compliance.
